10 Things About Me
I’m a mom of four kids. June Bug, age 2, loves boob juice, super hero’s, space/planets, and her big bro. Buddy, age 4.5, our most feral child, loves rainbows (“but not pretty things”), construction trucks, sticks, and pisketti (spaghetti). Lou, age 8.5, loves horses, making crafts, baking (which is a challenge with her food allergies). Martha, age 14.5, obsessed with Stevie Knicks, tea, iced coffee, sourdough bread, loves learning about and recreating fashion from the 1800’s ( and 1920’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, but Victorian and Edwardian are her fav time periods), is an amazing seamstress already…she’s a phenomenal artist as well. I would like to keep having babies until my ovaries and uterus turn off, BUT my husband doesn’t share those feelings, so our family is complete…probably.
I’m a Certified Nurse Midwife. That means I am a Registered Nurse (RN) who went to grad school and earned a Master’s in Nursing, specializing in Midwifery. Being a midwife was my life’s dream and then I realized my dream and well, you’ll have to read the blog post about what happened when I finally became a Midwife. I’ll give you a hint, I’m currently back in school completing a post-graduate degree in Psychiatric Nursing.
My husband and I have been together for almost half our lives! We found out we were pregnant with our first child just a few days shy of our one year dating anniversary. I was on birth control, in college, and we lived in different states. Life has turned out way cooler than I had ever imagined, mostly thanks to him being such a great support for me and our family. I’m so grateful birth control failed us!
I love plants. I have somewhere around 130 plants in my home (my kids like to count every so often to try to proved that I have a plant-addiction). They make me happy!
I feel the need to make whatever space I’m in look aesthetically pleasing. I can’t work in spaces that don’t bring me (and my eyeballs) joy. I love color! I hate all neutral aesthetic, it makes my eyes hurt. Even more painful fro my eyes are the puke colored monochrome “rainbows” that are popular right now. (Real) Rainbow is my favorite color.
I’ve been breastfeeding for 9 years consecutively and 11 years combined. I nursed my first child until she was a little over 2, then took a break until my second was born 4 years later and Ive been nursing ever since. My second was 4 when I stopped nursing her, the day before her brother was born! I’m a huge advocate for breastfeeding and breastfeeding support but also know that breastfeeding is not for everyone and really don’t care how you feed your baby, as long as you feed them! Professionally, I’ve helped countless families on their breastfeeding journey.
Photography is a hobby that recently turned into a small business. I love photographing pregnancy, birth, postpartum, babies and kids.
All of my kids were born on days with “8”. My favorite number is 16, so the fact that 8 is half of 16 and they’re half me and half my husband makes me feel like theres something magical about them all sharing this number. I call them my crazy 8’s. Also, if its not obvious, I have a weird thing with numbers…I prefer even numbers.
I am a “retired” circus arts performer. I used to run my own little circus. It started with my making and selling hula hoops, then learning how to use those hula hoops, then one thing led to another and I learned how to do aerial dance, fire dance, stilting and more. That led to me starting my own circus performance troupe and we performed at all sorts of really amazing events. I continued this through my second pregnancy and after and officially hung up my circus hat when I was pregnant with my third kid because I couldn’t keep up with being a nurse, being a grad student, two kids, and a pregnancy. Sometimes I miss it.
Black Lives Fucking MORE THAN Matter. I work hard to be anti-racist and teach my kids the same. My feminism is intersectional. I am an LBGTQIA ally. Love is love.
